Catholic School (Poem)

Catholic school
Made us obessed
- Self obsessed
-Obsessed with
Jesus Christ
- God and man
Born perfect
Yet made more perfect
Through Death
And Resurrection -
Was the example
We were trained to long for.
Always whatever we were
Would fall short.
Always would there be
Some unattainable standard -
Physical, intellectual, spiritual.

Catholic school
Turned us inward,
Made us bemoan our many imperfections,
Until keeping company
With oneself
Became a loathesome chore.

Love divided our obsession,
Focusing much of that wasted energy
On others -
Embracing them,
Holding them,
Binding them,
Smothering them.
