Between Mercy and Indifference (Poem)

I was born on the sea -
- My origin - your watery womb.
Now "you and me" has been so long
Too storm tossed and choppy
For our genesis bond to weather.
As you float there -
Urchin spines in your limbs
Saline flowing in -
My sympathy waxes and wanes.
My care
Is an ebb and a flow.
- A rising and falling
Tide of concern
Pulled by a guilty moon.
And as I pray for your deliverence,
My soul is washed out in the gray waves
- Between mercy and indifference.
